Fonts (Part 2)

A couple years ago, I came across the Doves font. I fell in love with it for two reasons. Firstly, it is the most beautiful serif font I’ve ever seen. Secondly, the Doves font has a wonderful story of loss and recovery. The original steel typeset blocks (sorts) were hurled into the Thames river, lost for generations. In 2014 a subset of the sorts were recovered, allowing the re-creation of the font.

Doves Font

I purchased a web license to support this project; however, there are things about Doves font that are limited, dated, or just don’t reflect my personal font style. There are things about Doves that I would change…and did change.

Using Calligraphr I re-sculpted some of the letters and punctuations.

New Thames

I also created accented letters, and added in modern symbols. The end result is a font that works for the International Chronicles of the Chester Fritz Professors and suits my own aesthetic tastes.
